EDGAR FROM FREE PEACE - LATEST GOINGS ON…

Posted by jenny on 08/12 at 03:48 PM

Howdydoo back again semi regularly as promised.it maybe a little after the fact but i feel i must say a few words on recent passing of the sky. saxon that is. actually two words mostly spring to mind EVIL HOODOO. Being seventeen wouldn’t have been the same without it. what a glorius noise they made on their 1st lp generally but the fact that this was 2 or 3 louder made it closer to my heart. sky was a major influence on the throat wrenching vocal style that i pursued back in the stairs days and it was kinda nice in a wierd way to hear ‘can’t seem to make you mine’ on a telly ad recently. however on reaching for my seeds lps i’ve realised someone has accidentally forgot to pass me back my “live at merlins music box” probably their best full lp. you know who you are . enjoy ya bastad!
LP sessions are going fine.tomorrow we have our first perfomance from outside of the group with ex joneser jamie laying down some bagpipes so we can trample on them whilst he’s playing mandolin. should be fun.
otherwise i’ve managed to solve my potatoe storage problem. they kept goin bad before i could eat them and a friend suggested i put them in a cool dark place. so not one to do things by i half i’ve put them next to my charlie mingus albums and its worked a treat. NICE ONE.

A WORD FROM EDGAR FROM FREE PEACE…

Posted by jenny on 08/03 at 06:31 AM

Wir haben a little deestress in the camp of late with a coupla cancelled shows. Apologies to those hoping to attend. Double shame really as the shows we have done recently and rehearsals have been really cutting it. Next few weeks we’ll be putting final touches to our debut l.p. - which has been delayed a little due to voice trouble earlier in the year quite classically followed by much equipment failure. Basically everything (band and recording equip) bar our old gibsons had been failin us but all the gear is in tip top shape now and ready for action. Sorry for being gone so long and then hitting you with this - probably the most boring paragraph in literary history - but a necesssary evil it is and leaves me free to bang on about stuff like haircuts and the recent deaths of superstars like Sky Saxon in the NDF (near distant future). See you then..

HEATON PARK…happy days..

Posted by jenny on 06/09 at 03:05 PM

We’re all just about back to normality now after a monumental weekend at Heaton Park. Think we’re all still in shock at the overwhelming hospitality shown by all the Oasis crew and Promoters SJM, who made us feel like kings.
We got there about 8.15am as we needed to soundcheck and get ourselves installed before the crowds descended. Hot-footed it to over to the catering tent (marquee more like) for a few coffees and a bite. (Have to say the food provided was immense and we never stopped eating the whole weekend). After that we went over to check out our dressing room and inside we found another table laden with goodies - crips, choccy, sweets, fruit, alcoholic beverages - everything you’d want really. It was pissing down during the day and a bit freezing but a girl still drove over in a buggy (!) specifically to deliver ice cubes to our dressing room so that our beers stayed nicely chilled in the cool box…..! It was funny watching people zipping about all over the place in buggies and on their walkie talkies - it was all just like a scene from that film Westworld with Yul Brynner..! The sheer scale of the operation at Heaton Park was astounding and I don’t think any of us had seen anything like it before (and probably won’t again, unless Free Peace get to support Elton John - which is unlikely) - cranes, trucks, portakabins, ambulances, buggies, stewards as far as the eye could see.
Mr Noel came by and said hello - think he was still a bit frustrated by the previous night’s kerfuffles with the sound but nonetheless in good humour as usual. We had a short convo about electric cigarettes and other stuff and then he went back out into the rain with a massive golf umbrella..
Did the sound check. Trefor was gettin into the music and head banging at the side of the stage and suddenly someone appeared at his side and started head banging too. Tref said he was well surprised to turn around and discover it was Liam! He then went over and started playing with Nick’s ears apparently while he was on the kit. I think he loves Free Peace almost more than we do…..  We passed him a cd of the new stuff and about ten minutes later he’d listened to it and told us the names of the songs he particularly liked.
Free Peace were on at 4.50pm precisely. They rocked from the outset and although the crowd didn’t move that much we think they enjoyed it. They were probably quite chilled to the bone, having stood there for hours in horizontal rain, and probably couldn’t care less who Free Peace were - but judging by the reactions we’ve had following the gig people really liked it. S’pose it didn’t help that Edgar went ‘hello - we’re Free Peace - from Liverpool!‘ to a load of Mancs…
More of our Heaton Park adventure to follow…..............

JULIETTE LEWIS IS A GODDESS

Posted by jenny on 05/22 at 11:34 AM

Had a good one at Sound City gig with Free Peace last night. Edgar did good for his first gig back after a nasty chest infection and Nick and Stu were cosmic, as usual. The Vanities showed mucho promise with their heavily funked-up grooves and the charismatic Danny upfront. But we really have to go on about Miss Juliette Lewis and her enchanting performance that left us all a bit weak at the knees really! She’d move around the stage like a dream; at one time graceful as a swan - all long-limbed and trippy - in some kind of childlike reverie - and then the next minute shake you to your very foundations with her deeply provocative posturing - which still managed to stay tasteful, ladylike and kind of magical really. So good to see the lady in such complete command of the stage. Her talent just shines through. Does anybody else agree? Maybe let us know in our new fangled, hi-tec forum - ‘tis getting a bit cobwebby in there…!!
